Our American Rodeo documents the role of rodeo in First Nation communities, focusing on the Oglala Lakota from Pine Ridge, South Dakota and the Blackfeet from Browning, Montana. Centring the film around bull and bronco riders from these communities - Jordan ‘Slick’ Phelps, Kendall Edmo and Dougie Hall - the film is also a meditation on ambition, success and unity.

Rodeo has often been seen as the archetype settler sport, yet it has been adopted by First Nation communities in a real way who, despite the dangers, see it as a healing force for good, providing jobs and a feeling of self worth for the riders and their families.
